Upper Padden Creek Gorge is northwest of Lake Padden, where Padden Creek begins its fall to Bellingham Bay.  The Brinn Trail property is part of a beautifully wooded stream corridor, with old second-growth and some old-growth evergreen trees.  The lower portion of the property slopes down to the northern shore of Padden Creek.

With the intent to preserve and protect forever its beauty and natural habitat, the Brinn family first granted a conservation easement, and then donated the land to the Bellingham Greenways program.  The Interurban Trail runs along the southern border of the property.

Trees in the area include Douglas fir, western red cedar, western hemlock, red alder and big-leaf maple.  The understory varies, but consists mainly of Oregon grape, salal, sword fern and other native species.  Both pileated and downy woodpeckers have been observed on the property, as well as waterfowl and other bird species.  Small mammals, amphibians and reptiles also are present in the area.

Our Heritage

We are entrusted with an extraordinary natural heritage. Saltwater shorelines, forests, lakes, farms, mountains, and wildlife habitat are all part of a legacy that only we can preserve for future generations. The desire to share this heritage with our children and grandchildren unites all who treasure Whatcom County.
