The Agate Bay Preserve is an assemblage of several separate tracts of land, which together comprise 333.5 acres of forest land in the Lake Whatcom Watershed. The Preserve is located on the lower foothills of Squalicum Mountain, south of Academy Road, north of North Shore Drive, and west of Agate Bay. A portion of the property, about 190 acres, was clear-cut harvested in the early 1990s and is regenerating with Douglas fir, alder and cedar. The remaining property has been selectively harvested over the years, with some areas of large openings and some areas in closed canopy condition. Forest roads provide interior access to the property. Several small seasonal streams drain the property directly into Lake Whatcom. The property is surrounded by rural, residential lots varying in size one to twenty acres.

Our Heritage

We are entrusted with an extraordinary natural heritage. Saltwater shorelines, forests, lakes, farms, mountains, and wildlife habitat are all part of a legacy that only we can preserve for future generations. The desire to share this heritage with our children and grandchildren unites all who treasure Whatcom County.
