Preserving the Nature of Whatcom County since 1984

Wenke

Location:  Near Mission Road and Goshen Road
Size:  5 Acres
Public Access:  No
Easement granted:  June, 2001
Easement type:  Conservation
Grantees:  Whatcom Land Trust

The Wenke property is typical of many in central Whatcom County - a mostly flat to rolling property with single family home surrounded by second growth forest.  The forest is predominantly Douglas fir, Western Red Cedar, Red Alder and Big Leaf Maple.  The property also has a small pond and a seasonal stream.  The property has been designated as good woodland wildlife habitat.  Deer, weasel and other small animals as well as numerous bird species are found on the property.

The Whatcom Land Trust and the property owner recognize the importance of these smaller parcels of land to the wildlife that live in rural Whatcom County.  While not yet an island of forest among dense housing the easement permanently protects the character of this property.  There is no public access to the property.

Our Heritage

We are entrusted with an extraordinary natural heritage. Saltwater shorelines, forests, lakes, farms, mountains, and wildlife habitat are all part of a legacy that only we can preserve for future generations. The desire to share this heritage with our children and grandchildren unites all who treasure Whatcom County.
